Vautrots in Church Point, LA = A Rated Boudin
Location: 1028 Peach Bloom Hwy, Church Point, LA 70525
Ambiance: This steel-sided mini-mart/citgo certainly does nothing to inspire. The clear design purpose was to pump gas and sell cigarettes. In the back is a modest kitchen and meat room along with the requisite meat cases. You’ll find some chickens and maybe some ribs turning away on the rotisserie, but don’t expect to be blown away.
Cost: $2.89 lb.
Presentation: Order it from the back and they’ll wrap it in GREEN paper. Wow!! a boudin first.
Casing: Fine and dandy.
Rice/Meat Ratio: More meat than rice. Just a tad so. But still, in the grand scheme of things, it is nice to have a little extra meat.
Texture: On the chunky side. You’ll appreciate the grains of rice and the pieces of meat and fat commingling into a harmonious hunk of love.
Spices: Medium to medium-warm.
Overall Taste: Excellent flavor. Wonderful aroma. Tasty and toothsome. Delicious.
Comments: Make your way out to the glorious Cajun countryside and stop in at Churchpoint. When we asked around in town about who had the best boudin everyone sent us to Vautrot’s. They did not send us astray and we won’t send you astray. Also, while you’re in Church Point, be sure to sample some of Sunny’s Fried Chicken (world famous even if they don’t proclaim it). This area really comes alive during Mardi Gras and you can always find some of the best Cajun music around.
