B-: Broussard’s (aka Chicks) Grocery in Loreauville, LA = B- Rated Boudin
Location: 104 North Main Street , Loreauville , LA 70552
Ambiance: ???? Not sure what to say here. It is an easy place to miss (pulled back off the street between two buildings), but it is right there on Main Street It is not the primary grocery store in town, but it may be the most seasoned. The gentleman behind the counter is helpful and he keeps several pots of hot boudin at the ready. THIS IS NOT HOMEMADE BOUDIN. IT COMES FROM A FACTORY.
Cost: $2.69 lb
Presentation: Pulled from a large rice cooker teetering on a couple of metal file cabinets, placed on a Styrofoam tray and wrapped in plastic: All right before your eyes.
Casing: Stringy and not memorable.
Rice/Meat Ratio: More rice than meat.
Texture: Dry and chewy.
Overall Taste: This link does possess some “boudin” flavor, but it is overly salty, and certainly not zesty. It’ll do in a pinch.
Comments: It has to be noted that this boudin is not made on the premises. It comes pre-made from a place in Lafayette called Mac’s. That’s about all we need to say. If you are in Loreauville and you need to have a link then stop in at Broussard’s, but we cannot suggest that you make your way to this fine Cajun city solely for the boudin.
