Michael’s Meat Market in Crowley, LA = B Rated Boudin
Location: 1407 Crowley Rayne Hwy, Crowley, LA 70526
Ambiance: Looks like Michael decided to turn an old gas station into a meat market. Give him credit for enthusiasm. Although the meat case is somewhat bare, and half of the place looks like his office, you can sense the pride of ownership that comes along with a guy who strikes out on his own to sell specialty meats. Here here!!!
Presentation: A large link is cut up and wrapped in an oversized piece of butcher paper.
Casing: Hard to know. After being cut up the casing’s purpose is diminished.
Rice/Meat Ratio: More RICE than meat. Lots of RICE!!!
Texture: A moist mess of mush. Lots of rice.
Overall Taste: Tasty. Yes indeed, it is tasty. With an exceptional amount of rice, barely held together with some pounded and pulpified meat (and the cruncy bit of onion here and there), we were hesitant at first. However, after the first few bites the ricey mixture latches onto your pallet. The whitish color is somewhat off-putting, but the juiciness of the link makes up for the lack of color.
Comments: Ask around and you’ll find your way to Michael’s. We’re not sure you’ll fall in love with it, but we’re pretty sure you’ll have a unique and tasty boudin eating experience.
