Shop’s in Ville Platte = B- Rated Boudin

Shops6

This man knows how to make a link of boudin at Shop’s!!

Ville Platte can certainly give Scott a run for their money when it comes to the whole “boudin capital” thing if only by virtue of having so many different places churning out homemade links.  Shop’s Grocery is one of a half dozen such places where, inside this rickety convenience store/meat market/bait-n-tackle, you’ll find a hearty link of boudin along with a variety of smoked meats.

THE BOUDIN

A couple of hefty links of boudin from Shop’s in Ville Platte.

With equal amounts of rice and meat this link possesses an almost unrestrained flavor.  It is certainly complex and deep overall, but only exhibits a mild heat.  The rice is partially ground and the meat is pulverized so that the flecks of black pepper stand out from end to end.  At just $3.99 lb you’ll certainly get your money’s worth, and your belly full, at Shop’s.  To our taste there is something a little “off” about this link.  It is good but it is not great.

Ambiance: Not much to it.  Might be time for some cleaning and some updating.  Or, maybe not?  This is a neighborhood grocery type place making smoked meats, boudin, specialty meats, and selling bait and tackle too!  Friendly and fun.
